Cooking 101 (or 82)

Surely they don't mean you can't heat syrup in it's original container in the microwave? Well, maybe this sugary liquid could have survived the 15 seconds it was heated, but when I accidentally pushed a "0" and roasted it for 1:50, it didn't fair too well. I don't know what the chef's term for "beyond carmelized" is, but it's definitely a solid at this point . About the time I noticed an odor and heard the microwave continuing to roll - I glanced over to see smoke billowing out from the appliance. Milah had a friend for the night and she can't wait to go home and tell her Mom.
